The year is 1872. For yet another year, GICHO is with Dimitur Obshti's band (Dimitur Obshti is a historic personality – a fearless revolutionary). He's brought with him ASSENCHO, a young shepherd from Zherevna, whom he is passionately inducting into the activities of the upcoming Revolution. Inspired by Guisepe Garibaldi and the Italian Unification, Dimitur Obshti's band carries out the robbery of a Turkish revenue train, in spite of a ban issued by the Central Revolutionary committee, with a goal to buy rifles for the Revolution.
After the operation, Dimitur Obshti entrusts GICHO with a special mission, to hand a letter to Levski personally (Levski is a historic personality - a legendary hero for Bulgarians). GICHO accepts the task with pride and along with ASSENCHO sets out to catch up with Levski who always seems to be a day ahead of them.
After months of fruitless wandering, GICHO is embittered by his close encounters with committee members who don't care about the cause and only look to their own well being.
Depressed by pointless activity and longing for real revolutionary activity, GICHO decides to take things into his own hands
